UCIPC ‘Keywords’ Colloquium at the University of Warwick, May 10-12, 2007

The ‘keywords’ theme was central to the UCIPC Colloquium that took place at the University of Warwick in England between May 10 and May 12, 2007. This event, coordinated by Janelle Reinelt and Lynette Hunter, was collaboratively funded by the UCIPC and by Warwick as part of its North America Initiative. The colloquium involved eleven members of the UCIPC, ten members of the University of Warwick and four invited guests from the Universities of London (Queen Mary and Holloway), Lancaster, and Aberystwyth. The conference was particularly intellectually rewarding because it threw into sharp relief different approaches from North American and European fields of research into theatre, dance and performance. One colleague commented:

To be able to discuss, in an intimate and informal manner, the research in this field with several UK scholars whose work I admire and teach, was a very rich opportunity for me. Learning about some of the performance projects in the newly-emerging cultural field of the EU both added new materials to my sense of transnational performance and gave me new ways to think about the work with which I am already engaged. The very notion of an ongoing relationship among leading campuses in the UK and the UC seems unique and important to the future of collective research.

The keywords issue of Moving Words/ Moving Worlds will draw from many of these papers.
