UCIPC Eastern Europe and Germany, UC Davis, May 5-6, 2006
In Spring 2006, the UCIPC Eastern Europe and Germany colloquium was held between May5 and May 6, 2006 at UC Davis. Although the main topic of the colloquium revolved around performances in Eastern Europe and Germany, the papers focused as well on globalization theory. The UCIPC on International Performance and Culture brought in several well-known theatre scholars who work in these areas, as well as included several panel discussions, open discussions, and keynotes. Several visiting scholars took part to this event. Katrin Sieg, a specialist in Eastern European theatre and performance at the BMW Center for German and European Studies, Georgetown, as well as Sonia Kuftinec were invited to UC Davis. Panelists Katrin Sieg, Helena Kaut-Howson and Peter Lichtenfels discussed relocation across borders and issues of identity. A discussion led by Sue-Ellen Case and Janelle Reinelt focused on Europe and the questions related to the globalization of journal issues. Keith Hennessy and Cipriana Petre were invited to provide keynotes on theatre performances in context.
